Privacy Policy
- Your photos stay on your device. MemoryPlaces runs no photo service. The one exception is an album you choose to share, which goes through your own iCloud.
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile is created.
- No data collection. The App Store privacy label for MemoryPlaces is “Data Not Collected.”
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
1. Who we are
MemoryPlaces is made by Home M K Inc., a company registered in Ontario, Canada (“we,” “us”). If you have any question about this policy, email [email protected].
2. What MemoryPlaces does
You pick a photo, choose a radius around the place it was taken, and MemoryPlaces finds the other photos in your library taken within that radius. It then creates an album in Apple Photos containing those photos. Everything in that process — reading location metadata, matching, and creating the album — happens on your device.
Albums do not update on their own. When you return to a place and want to add newer photos, you open the saved place in MemoryPlaces and tap Refresh.
3. Permissions we ask for
Photos
MemoryPlaces needs access to your photo library to read the location metadata stored in your photos, to find matches, and to create or update albums in Apple Photos. Photos are not copied out of your library; an album created by MemoryPlaces simply references photos that are already there. If you grant only Limited access, MemoryPlaces can only match the photos you selected, so results will be incomplete.
Location
Normally a place is defined by the location metadata inside the photo you pick, not by where you are. MemoryPlaces asks for your device’s location only if you choose Create album from current location. It then reads your location once, on your device, to set the centre of that album. Your location is not sent to any server we control.
4. Information we do not collect
- No account, email address, or profile is required or created.
- No photos, thumbnails, or location data leave your device to reach us.
- No advertising identifiers, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
5. Data stored on your device
To do its job, MemoryPlaces keeps a small amount of information in its own storage on your device: your saved places (name, centre coordinate, radius, photo count, and when you last refreshed), your preferences, and your purchase status. This information stays in the app’s container on the device.
Saved places stay on the device where you made them unless you turn on iCloud Sync (part of Basic and Lifetime). With iCloud Sync on, your saved places — name, centre, radius, and photo count, not the photos themselves — sync between your devices through your own private iCloud database (CloudKit). Apple stores that data in your iCloud account; we cannot read it. You can turn iCloud Sync off in MemoryPlaces › Settings, and you can remove the data under iOS Settings › [Your Name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.
6. Sharing an album
Sharing is always something you start, from an album you own. If you share a place album, MemoryPlaces uploads a copy of that album’s details (name, area, photo count) and of the photos in it to your iCloud account and shares them, through Apple’s iCloud sharing, only with the people you invite. Those copies live in your iCloud, under Apple’s iCloud terms; we never receive or see them. People you invite see the shared album inside MemoryPlaces on their own devices.
7. Purchases
MemoryPlaces is free to download. Optional purchases (an annual subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase) are sold through Apple’s App Store and billed to your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your card number or billing address. To unlock what you bought, the app checks the purchase record that Apple provides on your device. Apple’s handling of your purchase is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
8. Diagnostics
MemoryPlaces does not include crash-reporting or diagnostics SDKs. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device’s Privacy & Security settings, Apple may share aggregated crash logs with us; these contain no photos, locations, or personal identifiers.
9. Data retention and deletion
- Deleting the MemoryPlaces app removes its saved places, preferences, and other app data from that device.
- Albums that MemoryPlaces created remain in Apple Photos until you delete them there. Deleting an album in Photos does not delete the photos themselves.
- Because we hold no personal data on any server, there is nothing further for us to delete on our side. If you have a question about your data, email us and we will answer it.
10. The website
memoryplaces.app is a static website. It does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver and protect the site; see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.
11. Children
MemoryPlaces is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or state privacy laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because MemoryPlaces does not collect personal information, we will normally respond to such a request by confirming that we hold no data about you. You can contact us at any time about this.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date at the top. For material changes we will also note the change in the app’s release notes or on this page.
